September 2020

Sir Knights of Assembly 3596:

Please recall the second watchword of our Order, “Unity.”  With the political process heating up for the elections, our Nation is more divided and tolerance reduced.  “Unity” does not mean everyone has the same opinion, but rather, it infers respect for each other and their opinions.  Help unite our Nation by being a living example of appropriate respect and tolerance.

Please push the virtual 4th degree exemplification on 31 October at 1100 (on-line registrations start at 10:15).  The cost is $50 and we need the Form 4 and the exemplification fee well before our 21 October deadline to provide both to State.  The Assembly will be locally hosting the virtual exemplification in Farrell Hall as there is a 250 end-points limitation on the software.

I strongly recommend the new movie, “Fatima” to you.  Since theaters are largely closed, it is available as a rental on several cable services.  It is a powerful and moving performance.

The funeral Mass for Sir Knight Marty Merlo was last Friday.  His widow, Evelyn, asked we express her appreciation for all the Knights who support the Mass and graveside ceremony.  Thank you Honor Guard and thank you fellow Knights!

I am carefully watching the COVID situation, but have made no decision on when we will begin physical meetings.  At a minimum, we can expect the September and October assembly meetings to be virtual.  This decision was in consultation with several Assembly luminaries but I really want to hear from you.  If you have strong options on when, or how, we should reopen our Assembly meetings, please reach out to me and share your thoughts.

Assembly 3596 Proposed budget

Faithful Navigator, Jim McHugh, PGK has proposed the following budget for the 2018-19 Fraternal Year for the review and feedback of the members of the Assembly. Please forward all questions and concerns about the budget to the Faithful Navigator, Jim McHugh, PGK or to the Faithful Comptroller, Phil Torry.

The Fr. Thomas A. Casey Assembly 3596 has arranged to provide a Color Guard immediately preceding the Washington Nationals baseball game at Nationals Park in Washington DC at 7:00 PM on August 21, 2018. We would like to invite you and your families to join us for a memorable evening of fun and fraternity with fellow Knights and their families. The Assembly has reserved a block of 50 tickets for the game. If you wish to come to the game, tickets can be purchased here ( https://groupmatics.events/event/Kc). If you have any questions, please contact the Faithful Captain, Jim McHugh, PGK.

Color Corps

Once again the Assembly is being asked to provide honor guard support to the Holy Thursday and Easter Vigil Masses at Saint Mary of Sorrows.  Please sign up on the sign-up genius and indicate if you will be wearing the uniform, or the regalia.  Regardless of dress, both options will be with swords.  These are both pivotal events in our Catholic heritage and your support at either, or both, events is deeply appreciated; let’s make a statement of our faith with a visible and substantial presence at these Masses!

As a reminder, the mandatory date for the new color corps uniform has been extended until June 2019.  Until then, either the new uniform or the regalia are acceptable at any color corps event.

Here is a link to the new Color Corps Manual wit the new uniform:  http://www.kofc.org/en/members/for-members/color.html

Speaking of long-term planning: It looks like we will be providing a color guard for the Potomac Nationals game in August.  More details later!

James W. Robinson, Jr.

On April 11, 1966, Sergent James W. Robinson, whom Robinson Secondary School was named, was killed in action but not before saving several wounded GIs, eliminating a sniper and taking out a .50 cal. Below is a great article concerning the tragic events leading to this hero's death.

Sir Knights:

Our next meeting will be on February 9 at Old St. Mary’s Hall (OSMH).  As usual, we will have a Sir Knights’ Café at 9 PM and a rosary at about 7:35 PM.   Our meeting will start at 8 PM.

On Saturday, February 13, we will have Color Corps Training and Commander Training at Farrell Hall.  Training starts at 8 AM and Commander training should end by around 11 AM.  If you have any interest in the Color Corps, please come to the training and see what it is about.  We will have some loaner regalia available there for your use.  If you do not have regalia yet, please consider joining the Color Corps and acquiring regalia for use at events.  You will find that it is very personally satisfying and you will demonstrate your patriotic pride by doing so.

For your information, we have received name badges for Charter Members and some members who have transferred more recently.  We will continue to order name badges for everyone who joins the Assembly.  If you have not yet received yours, why not come to a meeting and pick it up.
Our Charter was presented to us by the Virginia District Master at the Installation of Officers and it is currently being framed for mounting on the wall of the hall, just as was done with the Charter for Council 8600.

Patriotically With God,
Al Obuchowski
